The Hulk may be getting another stand-alone movie after Avengers 2. Thats exciting enough but get this: it is thought that the new film will take its plot from the Planet Hulk and World War Hulk storyline! HULK SMASH!!

I Am The Swag

A scene in the recent Dredd movie really captured what it was that made me a fan of Judge Dredd (and 2000AD) way back in 1988:

Anderson: Sir, he's thinking of making a move for your weapon.
Judge Dredd: Yeah.
Anderson: He's changed his mind.
Judge Dredd: Yeah.

Its PURE Joe Dredd, the kind of lawman you'd expect if Dirty Harry and Robocop had a lovechild (look its weird I know but an accurate description.) Dredd takes no prisoners in 2000AD, he is a no nonsense cop who is as happy dishing out the law as he is bullets.
Now I will happily admit to being a fan of the 1995 Stallone movie Judge Dredd, but this new Dredd amps it up anothrer notch, albeit in a different direction. Gone are the over the top characters like Mean Machine, but fret not because it loses none of its violence. Here be bullet orgies and loud guns. Director Pete Travis has gone for a more 'real' vision of Mega-City One and it almost looks like any US city, it certainly isn't the sprawling Mega-City that we're used to with the comics and Stallone film with 50ft high neon ads and busy traffic jams packed with flying cars.
Dredd reminds me of Robocop and this is a good thing. It has the same futuristic-but-not-quite buzz about it. Familiar-but-something-more is how id describe the city. Oh and dont expect huge gold shoulder pads on the Judges or Lawmasters built like monster trucks either because in keeping with the realism things are kept pretty sober. Urban does a good job of being Judge Dredd as does Lena Heady in her role as the movies villain, Ma-Ma. (And she's still hot despite the heavy scarring.)

To sum it up, Dredd is a brilliant movie and I hope there are more on the way. It would be fitting Justice to the galaxy's favourite Lawman.
This isn't a review but if it was id easily drop it a 5/5 Star rating. A must see.

Judge Dredd: "Inhabitants of Peach Trees, this is Judge Dredd."

Judge Dredd: "Just in case you've forgotten, this block operates under the same rules as the rest of the city. Ma-Ma is not the law. I am the law."

The Christma Eve Movie Is

Just finished watching the new Spidey flick aaaaaaannd......it was good, I enjoyed it. It felt really comic booky in the parts where Webhead was on screen and he had way more sooper dooper skills than the 2003 movie. Couple of downers though: No Mary Jane (but at least we didn;t get no Kirsten Dunst binty, hated her as MJ.) Never seen the guy who played Peter Parker/Spiderman before either but he reminded me of Andy Murray When the film featured the normal day to day stuff it felt like I was watching a high school sitcom on Bravo which was crap but like I said, the action comic book feel of the superhero scenes make up for that
Preferred the 2003 Uncle Ben and Aunt May though. Sally Fields and Martin Sheen? No. And no "with great power comes great responsibilty" line? That is Spidermans 'lesson' which stops him acting like a hothead. Oh and it lacked his wisecracks too. Had one or two but not enough.

My fellow countryman Rhys Ifans as Curt Connors/Lizardman was inspired, and much better than going through the Green Goblin saga again

A Thor(n) In My Super Side

Thor: he's a tad mighty

I finally went out and bought Thor last friday, being as Hollywood seem to be getting the superhero films right these days. Batman, The X Men, Iron Man have all been pretty decent stabs at bringing the comic world to the silver screen (I even like both Hulks despite what critics say) and after seeing the trailer to Thor, I was expecting good things from it. (You know theres a 'but' coming right?) Buuuut, I was let down. I wanted Thor to be a great movie, I wanted it to be as cool as Iron Man yet on the two occasions ive put the disc in and pressed PLAY I have not been able to get to the end. And yes I do have a sad face because like I say, I WANT Thor to rock! He's a bloody great character and has appeared in some fantastic storylines in his 50 years of being. The guy deserves a cool movie but in my opinion, director Kenneth Branagh dropped the ball. Or should I say hammer? I think Chris Hemsworth is perfect for the role but after that (again in my eyes) the perfection goes rapidly downhill.
The film feels like a chore to watch after 15 or so minutes, which is hardly a good sign and I cant exactly put my finger on what is that doesn't do it for me. Well okay heres two: it lacked the 'oomph' the other superhero films of late have had (and had in abundance). Another part of it is my fellow countryman Anthony Hopkins. Wonderful actor, enjoy his work greatly but seeing him in a superhero movie is strange. Why this should be I have no idea, and yet there it is. On the plus side I can see Thor coming good in forthcoming The Avengers flick, and of course there is Thor 2 due in 2013. My thorn may yet be plucked out.
